Carlos Hernán Rodríguez ha sido elegido por el Congreso como el nuevo Contralor General de la República de Colombia, un cargo de gran relevancia para el control fiscal del país.

En este contexto, vivió uno de los episodios más trágicos de la historia reciente de Colombia. El 11 de abril de 2002, un comando de la extinta guerrilla de las Farc se tomó las instalaciones de la Asamblea en Cali y secuestró a 12 diputados. Cinco años después, el 18 de junio de 2007, la nación se estremeció al conocer que esa guerrilla había asesinado a 11 de ellos. El único sobreviviente de este cruel episodio fue Sigifredo López.
Carlos Hernán Rodríguez se salvó de ser secuestrado porque el día del ataque no asistió a la sesión de la Asamblea. En su lugar, estaba acompañando a su hijo a una cita médica, un hecho que marcó su vida y que lo alejó de un destino trágico.

Ya había sido elegido
En mayo del 2023, el Consejo de Estado anuló la elección de Carlos Hernán Rodríguez, que para la época, con más del 80% había ganado. Supuestamente, la alta corte encontró irregularidades en el proceso de elección del funcionario.
En su momento se denunciaron que se elaboró una tercera lista de candidatos elegibles y modificar los parámetros de calificación establecidos inicialmente en la convocatoria, sin ninguna justificación.
En el caso contra Carlos Hernán Rodríguez, mientras se resolvía la demanda el cargo fue ocupado por el vicecontralor Carlos Mario Zuluaga, quien declaró que renunciaría si se elige a un nuevo contralor.
Sin embargo, la Corte Constitucional dictaminó que el listado de diez elegibles debían basarse en los veinte mejores puntajes realizados en marzo de 2022 por la Universidad Industrial de Santander.
Rodríguez se encontraba entre estos veinte y presentó una tutela que finalmente prosperó, ordenando rehacer la elección.
